On 13th March 2020 Letchworth Recorded Music Society will pay tribute to the late Paul Rooke, and his long-standing friendship with John McCabe. Paul Rooke, who for many years was conductor of the Hitchin Symphony Orchestra and Stevenage Male Voice Choir, was also President of the Letchworth Recorded Music Society, taking over in this respect, after her death, from clarinettist Thea King. He was also closely connected for years with the Elgar Society, and put many of Elgar's works on computer for the Elgar Complete Edition.
The programme for the Letchworth event, originally planned to be given by Paul Rooke before his tragic accidental death in the autumn of 2019, is entitled John McCabe, Pianist, Composer and Friend, and will now be divided between reminiscences of Paul's own work as conductor, and the recorded music of John McCabe. It will take place at The Settlement, 229 Nevells Rd., Letchworth, starting at 7.30pm.
