From July 3rd 2020 Heritage Records have begun reissuing the Continuum record catalogue, which was built up by the late Murray Khouri. Among the first CDs to be made available are John McCabe’s highly-praised recordings of Bax and the 2-CD set of American piano music together with a major piano work by Richard Rodney Bennett, under the title of Transatlantic Piano.
The Bax CD comprises the Sonata in E flat, which is the original version of the Symphony No 1, the Sonata No 2, and the work entitled Legend. Transatlantic Piano comprises works by John Adams (his massive Phrygian Gates), Carter, Copland, Previn and Rochberg, plus Richard Rodney Bennett’s spectacular voyage through 20th-century compositional styles, known as Noctuary (Variations on a theme by Scott Joplin) which McCabe regarded as a masterwork.
